Security is an afterthought, and that's economics

There are some black pill truths around security (the "nothing's ever going to change" kind) that need to be reconciled. It's an afterthought. People build technology to do the thing that they want it to do. They don't build it to not do all the things that might give a bad guy the chance to do it. That's an economics problem, and it's not really a thing that you can solve.

One of the things I love about cybersecurity entrepreneurs is that you can stare a really hard problem like that in the face and be like: "You know what? I think I could probably maybe do something about that." Then you need to find out whether or not that's true.
