The hackers weren't lying

A lot of what's actually happening right now is people realizing that, no, the hackers weren't lying this whole time. There are a crap ton of vulnerabilities out there.

The whole "the robots are going to come and hack all our stuff" narrative is concerning for a lay person, which makes it a political issue. A lot of what we're learning isn't even really an AI thing, though. It's pre-existing problems, and I think that realization has entered the zeitgeist in a different way over the past year.
