your marketing person is a noob

Here’s how to tell if your Internet Marketing guy is a noob… I can’t get over how often I see this – Even from companies that are reputable.

  1. If your marketing guy is charging you to optimize for your company name, he’s a noob (unless you company name is something INCREDIBLY generic). If people are searching for your company by its unique name that means that THEY’VE ALREADY FOUND YOU. The search engine simply helps them to connect them to your website. Paying someone to SEO your company just doesn’t make sense.
  2. If your marketing guy is running a Pay Per Click campaign (where you pay every time someone clicks your ad), where one of his keywords is your company name, he’s a noob (again – unless you company name is something INCREDIBLY generic). It one of his keywords is your domain name then he’s a super noob. Same thing applies as example 1, but this time he’s getting you to PAY HIM every time someone, who is SEARCHING FOR YOU BY NAME AND THEREFORE HAS ALREADY FOUND YOU, to take them to your site.

Correct me if I am wrong here by all means… I don’t profess to be the expert on Internet marketing by any stretch… To me this just seems common sense.
